Samsung Users in India was Issued Warning by CERT of Possible Cyberthreat

Security alert,  was issued for Samsung users on December 13, stating concern as high-risk and emphasised the urgency of updating the operating system or firmware in the existing Samsung mobile phones.

Samsung Electronics has been notifying some of its customers of a data breach that exposed their personal information to an unauthorized individual form the year 2020.

Hacker exploits bug in third-party app

Samsung discovered the data breach November 13, and determined that it was the result of a hacker exploiting a vulnerability in a third-party application the company used.

Now Samsung users in India has been notified that their data may include names, phone numbers, postal and email addresses. The warning has been issued by Govt. of India Computer emergency response team(CERT).

India’s CERT-In department, responsible for addressing cybersecurity issues, issued a high-risk warning to notify Samsung Galaxy phone users about potential security threats to their data. The advisory emphasizes the urgency of updating the operating system (OS) and firmware to minimize these risks.

Samsung Mobile, meanwhile, announced that they are rolling out a maintenance release under its December 2023 security update.

Further users have been asked to promptly update the operating system (OS) and firmware of their device and if they fail to do so, their mobile phones can be vulnerable to potential threats from hackers.

CERT, in its statement added that vulnerabilities might affect Samsung mobile phones that have been using Android versions 11 and above.
