• A new smishing campaign is targeting Nokia owners in India stating that they have won a lucky draw and demanding money to claim the prize.
• The smishing campaign which pretends to be from Nokia states that the recipient has won either a Tata Safari car or 1,260,000 Indian rupees.
A new smishing campaign or a text message phishing campaign is targeting Indian Nokia owners stating that they have won a lucky draw.
This smishing campaign pretends to be from ‘Nokia.com online shopping Pvt Ltd.co’ and states that the recipient has won either a Tata Safari or 1,260,000 Indian rupees. Moreover, the phishing message urges Nokia owners to pay Rs. 6,500 in order to claim the prize.
Contents of the phishing message
The phishing message is full of grammatical errors which makes it surprising that anyone would fall for this scam.
“Welcome to Nokia.com online shopping pvt LTD.co. Dear sir, Nokia.com you are a product mangopeople onlione shopping results are out in the selected for name of mansoon-luckky drwo your name to open the luckky drw.you have two options. 1st is Tata safari 2nd is Payment of Rs.1260000/- The charge of Registration service is Rs.6500/-” the message read, BleepingComputer reported.
Nokia warns users of the smishing campaign
Nokia staff warned its customers of the smishing campaign stating that any message claiming to be from Nokia and stating that they have won a lucky draw should be considered as fraud.
• Nokia has requested its users to not participate in any such fake offers and to not disclose any of their personal information in this scam.
• The company has further requested its users to report them immediately if they receive any such phishing messages.
“Please be aware that we have recently become aware that somebody is sending fake/spoof SMS, calls and emails referencing Nokia.com whereby unsuspecting consumers are being asked to submit money/registration fees against a lucky draw. PLEASE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THESE FAKE OFFERS OR GIVE OUT ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION IN THIS REGARD,” wrote HMD_Laura from Nokia staff, in a community forum post.
