• Maritime operations have not been affected by the cyberattack, and all the scheduled ships are operating normally.
• Land operations such as reception and delivery of goods also remained unaffected by the attack.

The port of Barcelona announced that it was hit by a cyberattack that affected many of its servers and systems. Fortunately, the organization already had security measures in place for such an attack, which were implemented immediately, and appears to have contained the incident.

The port of Barcelona is yet to determine the scale of damage caused by the cyberattack. It stated that its information systems department is estimating the extent of the attack and taking measures to minimize its effect.

However, it is still unclear as to whether the organization suffered a malware, DDoS or some other kind of attack. The identity of the attacker(s) behind the attack is also currently unknown.

Port of Barcelona said that their seaside operations have not been affected by the cyberattack, adding that all the scheduled ships are operating normally. Land operations, such as reception and delivery of goods, also remained unaffected by the attack.

Ironically, just two days before the attack, the port of Barcelona had published a poston Twitter saying that “No one is safe from a cyberattack that puts at risk the activity and security of its stakeholders.” However, it appears that the organization was prepared for such an attack, given how both its maritime and land operations were not impacted by the attack.

The organization said that it has already informed law enforcement agencies about the incident and simultaneously has initiated legal actions against the attack.
